two kingdoms
Two Kingdoms is still in the draft state. I am modifying a piece that was originally intended as a Reader's Guide for Seasons in the Kingdom. In this work, Two Kingdoms, an encapsulated history of Korea is presented, focusing primarily upon the role of women in Korean society. The focus is upon modern times beginning with the end of the Chosun Dynasty, the turmoil at the end of the 19th Century, the Japanese hegemony and Protectorate, the American Period, which includes the Korean War, and the rise of the period of the Korean Miracle on the Han in the 1980s and 1990s. Against the rise and turn of historical events I outline the abuse women have suffered at the hands of history. This thread of history demonstrates, to me at any rate, the root for the extra-ordinary and exponential growth of prostitution in Asia, and how that base activity in Korea impacts larger global human trafficking issues. In this work, I also examine prostitution worldwide, but the primary focus is upon Korea.
While statistics are available for the ROK, some are also available for the DPRK and the recognition of the human tragedy taking place in the DPRK paints a dark picture beyond the DMZ. My intention is to have this work available for purchase soon. If you have questions, or if you are intrigued by Korean history I encourage you to contact me. Thank you for finding your way to this page.
