About me...

I live in Maine. I have taught college, worked as a welder, sold diamonds, worked for an airline, designed maps, and sold pots and pans from the trunk of my car. I served four years in the military, two years of which were in South Korea. I am a cancer survivor.
When the mind is freed from the wild waves of worldly desires and follies, it will attain a calmness in which the true image of all existence is clearly reflected.
What's a nandu?

A nandu is commonly called rhea americana. It is about five foot tall, and it is flightless like the ostrich. Having only three toes, it is a fast runner. I had the opportunity to see one while camping in the northern Atacama, east of Pica. Wanting a closer look, I tried to get near the bird for a photo. As I did, the pursuit began. It was a short chase as the nandu bolted across the rough terrain liked a practiced sprinter, while I, carrying cameras and a backpack, tried to pick my way through the rough brush of the Altiplano. The last I saw of the nandu was a smear of brown and gray as it disappeared over the horizon.
